Patricia Showalter had become very unsteady on her left side, causing her to struggle to walk. Patricia went to Mercy Jewish Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with a brain tumor known as meningioma. After undergoing surgery to remove her tumor, Patricia struggled to regain her function.

For Victoria White, 2022 started just like any other year, working full-time and living her everyday life. Then, one morning, Victoria woke up and couldn’t move her arms and legs. Thankfully, she managed to use the emergency contact function on her phone to call her sister for help.

Rob Steffen

Before issues with his circulatory system, Rob Steffen lived a very active life. Rob was an avid golfer and a real estate agent and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

John Muench

Retired life was good for John Muench and his wife, Mary Jo. They filled their days with camping, hiking, working in the yard, and spending time with their large extended family. Then one day, John noticed increasing abdominal pain and a slight weakness in his legs. The pain became unbearable over the next couple of days, and John struggled even to walk. Mary Jo took John to the ER, where he was diagnosed with a spinal cord infarction.

Greg Traylor

Greg Traylor and his son were hanging Christmas lights on their house together, enjoying what should have been a special father-son experience. Instead, that day wound up being memorable for unfortunate reasons when Greg fell from the roof. He sustained multiple injuries in the fall, the most significant being a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Tracy Yaegel made great progress at Gateway after suffering an acute stroke. She had little function on the right side of her body and speech issues. She has made a full recovery with her speech and is walking and driving again.

Austin Rump came to Gateway after a severe car accident. One of his injuries included a traumatic brain injury, which affected his mental status, cognitive deficits, and speech.

Joe Matthews

During a road trip returning home, Joe Matthews blacked out at the wheel after contracting COVID-19 and pneumonia. The accident nearly took his life and left him with a crushed left arm.
